Household Hazardous Waste

Universal Wastes & Used Oil

Universal Wastes are a special group of hazardous wastes that are very common.  The NH Department of Environmental Services has made it easier to manage these types of waste because they are so common.  (Vermont has similar rulings.)

Many municipalities accept universal wastes and used oil at their transfer stations.  There are also stores that will take back some universal wastes for free.

These collection methods are much less expensive than accepting them at a hazardous waste collection.  Whenever you have another responsible disposal or recycling option than bringing these materials to an HHW collection, you will be saving your municipality money by doing so.
